How We Build Every Slate

Every pick starts with the team-focused shows: local beat writers, team podcasts and fan shows that cover one club every day. We read every one of those transcripts in full, then check the claims against box scores, injury reports and the betting market. National DFS sites have to cover all 32 teams, so they miss the coaching tendencies, role changes and injury details that decide a single-game Showdown.

Captain Picks

Captain scores 1.5 times the points and costs 1.5 times the salary.

Captain

George Kittle SF · TE

$8,200CPT $12,300

Washington has been the softest defense in the league against tight ends. Seven tight ends have scored against this group, and it allows the highest touchdown rate to the position. Purdy throws to his in-line tight end more than any quarterback in football. With Deebo Samuel out and Mike Evans banged up, the middle of the field opens even more. The flu slowed him last week, and he says he finally feels like himself. He played 92% of the snaps in Seattle, so his volume is safe.

Chalk Captain

Brock Purdy SF · QB

$10,800CPT $16,200

This is the popular Captain, and it is popular for a reason. Washington ranks near the bottom of the league against quarterbacks. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game this season. Washington blitzes more than almost any team, and he has picked the blitz apart. Volume is the only knock, since he has thrown 30 passes just twice.

Leverage Captain

Rachaad White WAS · RB

$6,600CPT $9,900

San Francisco has allowed more running back catches than any team in the league. Croskey-Merritt is out, and White already played 60% of the snaps last week. He handled every two-minute snap for Washington before last week. If Washington falls behind, the checkdowns should pile up. At $9,900 as Captain, he will be far less popular than the 49ers stars.

Core FLEX

Core FLEX

Jayden Daniels WAS · QB

$10,000CPT $15,000

His legs give him a high floor. He ran nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns last week. The bad news is that San Francisco has held quarterbacks to 33 rushing yards all season. The 49ers also allow a league-low 6.1 air yards per pass, which limits deep shots. He fits best in lineups that bet on Washington keeping pace.

Core FLEXQuestionable

Mike Evans SF · WR

$9,600CPT $14,400

When he plays, he is San Francisco’s top target by a wide margin. His target share hit 37% last week, and he caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Washington gives up big yardage to outside receivers. He has played through a rib injury since Week 3, so the questionable tag is nothing new. Check the 6:45 p.m. ET inactives before lock.

Core FLEX

Christian McCaffrey SF · RB

$11,800CPT $17,700

He carries the top salary on the slate, but his workload is capped. San Francisco has kept him at 15 carries or fewer in every game. A touchdown is always in reach because the 49ers are so efficient in the red zone. He works as a FLEX play, but he is a thin Captain at this price.

Core FLEXQuestionable

Stefon Diggs WAS · WR

$8,400CPT $12,600

Six to nine targets came his way in all four games he played. San Francisco allows the fewest slot targets in the league, and the slot is where he does his damage. Only use him if he is active.

Values

Value

Brandin Cooks SF · WR

$4,000CPT $6,000

His snaps jumped to 40% last week, and he caught a touchdown. Deebo Samuel’s absence opens up a bigger role. If Evans sits, he becomes the top outside receiver.

Value

Kaelon Black SF · RB

$3,800CPT $5,700

The rookie spells McCaffrey on early downs. His work grows if San Francisco builds a lead and leans on the run. He has not reached 20 total yards in any of his last three games, so he likely needs a touchdown.

Value

Treylon Burks WAS · WR

$3,200CPT $4,800

Washington used him on 73% of the snaps last week, and he saw five targets. His role is mostly downfield, so one catch can pay off this salary.

Value

Jacob Cowing SF · WR

$2,200CPT $3,300

San Francisco used him on 43% of the snaps last week, and he also returns punts. The 49ers have only four healthy receivers, so he stays on the field.

Sleepers and Fringe Plays

Sleeper / FringeOn IR

Christian Kirk SF · WR

$3,000

He is in play only if San Francisco activates him off injured reserve today. This would be his first game of the season, so expect limited snaps.

Sleeper / Fringe

Antonio Williams WAS · WR

$4,200

With Diggs out last week, he ran most of his routes from the slot. His role shrinks if Diggs plays, and the 49ers are tough on slot receivers.

Sleeper / Fringe

Chig Okonkwo WAS · TE

$4,600

A quarter of Washington’s targets went his way last week. San Francisco has not allowed a touchdown to a tight end this season.

Sleeper / Fringe

Austin Ekeler WAS · RB

$3,600

Only 10% of the snaps went to him last week. Dan Quinn praised his receiving ability this week, so his role could grow without Croskey-Merritt.

Sleeper / Fringe

Luke Farrell SF · TE

$1,200

Two-tight-end looks put him on the field for 60% of the snaps last week, mostly as a blocker. He is a touchdown-or-bust play at a minimum salary.

Sleeper / Fringe

Kyle Juszczyk SF · FB

$1,400

The fullback returns from a knee injury. He is a cheap way to bet on a short-yardage touchdown.

Sleeper / FringeOn IR

Jeremy McNichols WAS · RB

$200

He is in play only if Washington activates him today. Reporters expect him to be elevated, which makes him a near-minimum option.

Kickers and Defenses

K / D/ST

49ers D/ST SF · DST

$4,400

Daniels was sacked five times last week. Washington’s left side has struggled in pass protection, and San Francisco forced four takeaways in Seattle.

K / D/ST

Eddy Pineiro SF · K

$5,200

A down year has included three missed field goals and two missed extra points. San Francisco’s scoring volume still keeps him in play.

K / D/ST

Drew Stevens WAS · K

$5,000

One of his extra points sailed wide last week. He makes the most sense in lineups that expect a Washington shootout.

K / D/ST

Commanders D/ST WAS · DST

$3,400

Purdy rarely takes sacks, so this is a low-priority play. The best path is a special-teams mistake, since Cowing muffed a punt last week.

Fade

Fade

Terry McLaurin WAS · WR

$8,000CPT $12,000

San Francisco allows a league-low 6.1 air yards per pass, which takes away his best weapon. His targets drop against the zone looks the 49ers play most often. He sat out Friday practice to rest a hamstring. At $8,000, he probably needs a long touchdown to pay off.

Prop Angles

George KittleOver 64.5 receiving yards

Washington’s tight-end defense is the worst in the league, and Kittle is the clear focus without Deebo.

Rachaad WhiteOver 2.5 receptions

San Francisco has allowed more running back catches than any team in the league.

Jayden DanielsUnder 38.5 rushing yards

The 49ers have held quarterbacks to 33 rushing yards all season, so this is a lean, not a lock.

Christian McCaffreyUnder 61.5 rushing yards

His carries have been capped at 15 or fewer every game this season.

Mike EvansOver 70.5 receiving yards

Play this only if he is active, since his target share hit 37% last week.
